Take a Second Look

This is hot off the computer!
The campaign is called "Second Look". It's designed to communicate the concept of having H&R Block take a second look at your tax return, just to make sure you get the full amount of your refund that you are entitled to. Because if you don't you might not be able to afford the whole boat, sofa, etc...If you want to see the finished ad's, you'll have to sneak a peak at them in People, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Time or Family Circle magazines.

Rick Chou in London?

Rick Chou was recently awarded an assignment to shoot the Lexus ES320 which was then composed into an existing photograph.

Rick shot the car is his studio, matched the critical angle, perspective and lighting, in order to to have the final image look as if the car was shot on location in London.

Gorgeous, is it not?

Curtis Johnson's Panoramic

Take a look at this beauty from Sedona, Arizona taken by Curtis Johnson:

Curtis is working on a series of panoramics, and this one is from a road trip that he took last week from Minneapolis to Tuscon.

Dennis Welsh and the Schooner

The NY Times asked Dennis Welsh to photograph the Angelique, a sailboat that operates out of Maine. The story came out today, and of course there is an online gallery that you can view here.

These two aren't in the gallery, but I love the perspective:

Bonini in Artisan Magazine

Steve Bonini's work for TYR has been highlighted in the second edition of Artisan Magazine, check it out.

Steve's a big believer in manipulated and beautified imagery. "Steve doesn't have any preconceived notions as to the palette or control," explains Amy [Dresser, retoucher]. "He talks about the capture and what he needs to accomplish when shooting the image."

And here's a production still from a recent TYR shoot:

Bonini featured in CCP magazine

Steve Bonini has been featured in CCP (Chinese Commerical Photography) with a multi-page full-color spread and cover photo. The magazine is mostly in Chinese, however there is a quote from Steve in English:
"I like to communicate raw human emotion my sports work. Though the look of intensity may be similar from sport to sport, it's how it mingles with body language that's fascinating to me. Therefore, I'd say that I'm more an observer of the human condition than a traditional sports shooter."

Sudanese Center Pro-Bono by Zelman

Bil Zelman recently finished a pro-bono shoot to help raise awareness for the Sudanese center of San Diego.

To the crews amazement, about fifty people showed up on location in a field near the border of Mexico where he shot at dusk... The winds were so strong that he had to use the winch on his old Land Rover to brace the huge scrim that shaded the area!
Amazing shoot. Amazing people. Amazing cause.

Curtis Johnson goes Japanese

Curtis Johnson just shot this ad for Fuji Ya Japanese restaurants. On top you can see Curtis shooting the transformer, and below the final ad.

He made that little toy look so realistic it's just fantastic! Do you think anyone would dare tell the transformer that beverages are not allowed on the train? And what, exactly, is in that briefcase of his?

Rethink Green

Rick Chou just shot this really interesting "truck wrap" for Saturn.

What he did here was create an optical illusion that looks like they are hauling around a giant tree.

It was executed beautifully, because I want to walk over there and go for the swing of my life!

Watch Steve Bonini in action with Harley

Apr 21 2018 - VID00043

Steve Bonini is currently working on a job for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Take a look at the video above by clicking on the image.

It seems kind of scary to me, but when you watch you can see he is so concentrated on capturing great images that it doesn't even seem to phase him that he's being held on by a single hand!

Curtis Johnson's newest personal work

Known for his sense of humor, Curtis Johnson's concept photography makes you stop and think.

His newest personal piece is no exception. It makes us question the easy and hard way of doing things, with a chuckle.

Above is Curtis' original idea and below the picturesque final image.

Bil Zelman Strums Along with Taylor Guitars

PDN just published a feature article titled "String it Along" on Bil Zelman's ongoing work for Taylor Guitars. An excerpt is below:
[Don] Stephenson [Vitrorobertson's AD] says that the photographer's history of interacting with talent and his ability to capture real moments in time helped him get the gig. But what really swung it was his skill in shooting in black and white: "Black & White film is territory many photographers have lost touch with, so it was crucial that we shoot with a someone who was skilled in not only capturing the B&W images, but also well versed in the nuances of properly processing the film. And finding the right place to do the processing was not easy, as most have gone out of business in the wake of digital cameras. But Bil managed to get exceptional results."
You can view the entire article from PDN here.

High-level Athletes turn Superhero

Found this interesting interview that originally ran in Photo Serve with Jeff Martin, the chief creative officer of The Brainstorm Group, talking about the EAS athletes shot by Steve Bonini. To the right is Jen Perez, a triathlete, and part of the EAS team, click here for more EAS Superhero athlete photos.

"Steve Bonini has shot a lot of pro athletes over the years and is great at working with them... I have worked with Steve on several other occasions and he's a great talent that works his ass off. That's a big plus when a re-shoot is out of the question."

"After six months of close collaboration and several carefully orchestrated photo shoots, Taylor and MiresBall unveiled the fifth version. From its content and tone, to the cadence of the writing and the beautiful, lyrical photography, it brings the passion, people and products behind the brand, to life."
